HISTORY
[CW ALERT] Drug Use, Brainwashing, Memloss
Lilah doesn't remember most of her childhood. She's been told that she grew up fast and was often quiet and isolated herself. She's been told that her parents, high ranking members of the biotech team, had to give her medicine when she was young in order to stave off a rare but life threatening infection, and that she has to take that medicine to this day to prevent it from returning. She's also been told that's complete bullshit. But the bottom line is that she doesn't remember and her parents were...discontinued. A less alarming word for "their profiles were deleted from the Reincarnation Engine due to misconduct and/or deviation". The knowledge that she is the last of her bloodline weighs heavy on her shoulders, as Sparks are usually rendered sterile by the melding procedure. From the age of 3 onwards, Lilah was fed a drug referred to by her parents as Red Honey in the hopes that it would enhance her psionic abilities and qualify her for the Spark Initiative. The drug, known for its sweet taste and resemblance to earthly goods such as honey or syrup, was created by her parents for the express purpose of boosting her psionic potential. While it did work, and she was able to meld with her Spark at the young age of 18, she also underwent the first case of partial rejection. Her body was left significantly weakened, sticking her with severe chronic nerve pain and damaging her hearing significantly. Although her ability to perceive psionic signatures allows her to "hear" other people approaching or trying to talk to her, actual words and sounds often escape her notice. The partial rejection also did a number on her memory - most of her childhood has been lost to the procedure, as well as some of the finer details of her scholastic upbringing, but she is by no means dull or slow mentally.
Her career as a Spark pilot was stressful, to say the least. Lilah became distrustful of her superiors and their motives after a medical issue landed her in what amounted to an onboard mad scientist lab. She saw the extent to which the ship's administration was willing to warp the human body and mind in pursuit of spreading human life across the cosmos. It was explained to her that in order to preserve humanity, the "base design" of the human experience had to be "improved upon". In the same breath, they preached to her the necessity of humanity being preserved and surviving. She felt this was contradictory and inherently a flawed approach to the subject, but soldiered on with completing missions for a few years before truly speaking out against the philosophy. The act of simply raising the question of "is this the right way to do things" got her in so much trouble that she realized the ship, it's crew, and it's civilians were absolutely brainwashed. She felt she was in a cult more so than a community.
Marked as a potential deviant and in danger of being "decommissioned", Lilah spent the next few years trying to figure out how to escape Gaia's Hope permanently. A small blessing was that her squadmates ultimately agreed with her fears and concerns and also wanted out. Knowing they could be tracked by their Sparks on basically any inhabited planet, the trio ultimately decided they'd have to figure out how to disappear into the noise of the psionic network - the only place outside of the warping capabilities of the colony ship. Ultimately, what they succeeded in doing was tracing the network back to it's source and meeting the core of all psionic powers. This irreparably changed the very fabric of their beings and, in the end, nobody but Lilah and her squadmates know what happened that day. What is known, is that they were never recovered by the ship, and are all considered killed in action by the ship's administration.
ABILITIES
Abilities at a glance. For a detailed explanation of each ability or context for the setting, click here: World Context + (Link to come)
PSIONIC CONNECTION
Lilah is connected to the psionic network of her world through her Spark. Her abilities wax and wane with the administration of Red Honey, but are present both with her Spark active and without. Mostly, this means she is psychically sensitive and able to perceive things that the average non-psychic individual would not be able to perceive.
EMPATHY LINK
Lilah is able to connect her consciousness to another sentient being for a host of benefits. She can only maintain one bond at a time. The bond can be broken by her at any time, or if the bonded individual dies or is mind controlled by another source, or if Lilah's connection is broken due to withdrawal.
RED HONEY ADDICT [CW: Drug Use]
After years of experimental drugs being fed into her system, Lilah is somewhat dependent on "Red Honey". As long as she is under the effects of the drug, she is considered psionically hyper-sensitive. After 24 hours, she will normalize. If she enters withdrawal (48 hours), she is considered psionically mute until she takes another dose.
FRAGILE SHELL
Lilah's Spark is unusually fragile. She takes additional damage from blunt weaponry and can be disabled at a lower threshold than normal when her Spark is active.
PSYCHOKINESIS
Able to move objects without touching them through mental effort alone.
POWER PROJECTION
While her Spark is active, Lilah's unique connection to the psionic network allows her to project an aura of power around a target, granting them access to their own set of psionic abilities for a short while.
